  23. <meta content="I would like to take this opportunity
  24. to announce the recent, and very
  25. significant, appointment of Professor
  26. Jenny Fleming to the Institute and to
  27. extend to her a very warm welcome
  28. from all of us at TILES. Jenny's
  29. appointment as Research Professor is
  30. extremely significant in that the Institute
  31. now has an experienced researcher with
  32. expertise in policing as a core member
  33. of the team. We wish to thank the Dean
  34. of Arts, Professor Jan Pakulski, and the
  35. former Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research)
  36. Professor Andrew Glenn for supporting
  37. her appointment through the provision
  38. of funding under the University's
  39. strategic initiative program. With Jenny
  40. on board, TILES is now in a strong
  41. position to increase its research profile
  42. nationally and internationally and to
  43. conduct research more specifically on
  44. matters relating to policing per se.
  45. This is a very exciting time for the
  46. Institute - Jenny and I are working
  47. together to prepare an extensive
  48. program of research over the next few
  49. years that will see TILES consolidate its
  50. reputation for quality research in the
  51. Welcome to the TILES Newsletter No. 3
  52. field of law enforcement.
  53. There will be dedicated space in the
  54. TILES newsletters for Jenny to inform
  55. you of her research activities and
  56. outputs. In the meantime, I can report
  57. that she and I, together with Inspector
  58. Matthew Richman of Tasmania Police,
  59. attended the International Committee
  60. for the Prevention of Crime Conference
  61. held in Canberra in September. This
  62. conference was jointly organised with
  63. the Australian Institute of Criminology
  64. and we thank the Director of the
  65. AIC, Toni Makkai, for supporting our
  66. attendance. Matthew's presentation
  67. on the Streetsafe project provided an
  68. opportunity to profile both TILES and
  69. Tasmania Police and to demonstrate
  70. the nature of our successful research
  71. collaborations. Jenny's well-established
  72. connections in Canberra ensured that
  73. the others attending the conference
  74. were made aware of the Institute's work.
  75. Next year we are planning to produce
  76. the newsletter on a more regular basis,
  77. to establish a regular seminar series
  78. and Jenny has been successful in
  79. receiving funding from the Academy of
  80. Social Sciences to hold a workshop in
  81. September 2007. We will provide you
  82. with more information on these events
  83. in future newsletters so please keep an
  84. eye out for them!
  85. Finally, on behalf of all of us at TILES, I
  86. wish you all a very Merry Christmas and
  87. a Happy New Year and look forward to
  88. keeping in touch with you in 2007.

  293. Jenny Fleming to the Institute and to
  294. extend to her a very warm welcome
  295. from all of us at TILES. Jenny's
  296. appointment as Research Professor is
  297. extremely significant in that the Institute
  298. now has an experienced researcher with
  299. expertise in policing as a core member
  300. of the team. We wish to thank the Dean
  301. of Arts, Professor Jan Pakulski, and the
  302. former Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research)
  303. Professor Andrew Glenn for supporting
  304. her appointment through the provision
  305. of funding under the University's
  306. strategic initiative program. With Jenny
  307. on board, TILES is now in a strong
  308. position to increase its research profile
  309. nationally and internationally and to
  310. conduct research more specifically on
  311. matters relating to policing per se.
  312. This is a very exciting time for the
  313. Institute - Jenny and I are working
  314. together to prepare an extensive
  315. program of research over the next few
  316. years that will see TILES consolidate its
  317. reputation for quality research in the
  318. Welcome to the TILES Newsletter No. 3
  319. field of law enforcement.
  320. There will be dedicated space in the
  321. TILES newsletters for Jenny to inform
  322. you of her research activities and
  323. outputs. In the meantime, I can report
  324. that she and I, together with Inspector
  325. Matthew Richman of Tasmania Police,
  326. attended the International Committee
  327. for the Prevention of Crime Conference
  328. held in Canberra in September. This
  329. conference was jointly organised with
  330. the Australian Institute of Criminology
  331. and we thank the Director of the
  332. AIC, Toni Makkai, for supporting our
  333. attendance. Matthew's presentation
  334. on the Streetsafe project provided an
  335. opportunity to profile both TILES and
  336. Tasmania Police and to demonstrate
  337. the nature of our successful research
  338. collaborations. Jenny's well-established
  339. connections in Canberra ensured that
  340. the others attending the conference
  341. were made aware of the Institute's work.
  342. Next year we are planning to produce
  343. the newsletter on a more regular basis,
  344. to establish a regular seminar series
  345. and Jenny has been successful in
  346. receiving funding from the Academy of
  347. Social Sciences to hold a workshop in
  348. September 2007. We will provide you
  349. with more information on these events
  350. in future newsletters so please keep an
  351. eye out for them!
  352. Finally, on behalf of all of us at TILES, I
  353. wish you all a very Merry Christmas and
  354. a Happy New Year and look forward to
  355. keeping in touch with you in 2007.
